Pay more for the better design.

14 September, 2011 (07:09) | Electric Toothbrush | By: admin

Do yourself a favor and buy the Sonicare Flex Care. The newer Flex Care models are an upgrade without the screw-on design flaw of this Sonicare model. This model has a hideous design where the saliva and other brushing liquids seep down into the inner mechanisms of the hand piece and pool up in a really disgusting way and requires you to take it apart and clean off inner crevices made up of metal and plastic parts. The new design eliminates all that slew of slime. This brushing action is fantastic, just like the new one, but this design stinks…literally.

Nice Product

I have researched the Sonicare toothbrushes and found the best value to be this new model, I am very happy with it. I read all the reviews for the other models, held them in my hand at the Department store and found the only difference between this and the higher priced models is in the style of the handle and the fancy lights showing the remaining battery life. Also the Elite models have the beep every 30 seconds during the 2 minute timer. This model has all the features I need: Easy reach brush(Uses same replacement heads as the Elite models),2-minute timer. Since these things only last a couple of years anway, whats the sense of spending another $30 or more for features you dont need to clean your teeth. Buy this toothbrush and use the money you saved to buy replacement heads.

GREAT PRODUCT! The Real Thing!!!

12 September, 2011 (07:09) | Lava Lamp | By: admin

Mine did nothing when I first got it. The blue blob just sat at the bottom of the bottle. I shook it once and turned the light off for an hour. After an hour – I switched it back on again and was rewarded with the COOLEST show of liquid motion ever! At first the wax stretched towards the top of the glass and after two hours…the neat little balls started forming.

I am hooked on this little relaxation device now. I could stare at those globules stretching, twisting, balling-up and colliding with each other ALL DAY now! Its really more soothing than a fish tank, and works PERFECT with relaxing music. It is a great conversation piece and therapeutic…all wrapped up in one cool, retro looking lamp!

I suggest hooking a timer to it and scheduling it to work while you sleep. The lamp seems to work much better when it cycles between OFF/ON periodically. The lamp MUST cool down every 6-8 hours…or else youll see nothing but a lazy, round blob sitting at the bottom of the glass. Dont buy it for the illumination…get it because it definitely will UNSTRESS YOU.

Not a good product

Mighty fine tent

10 September, 2011 (07:09) | Tents | By: admin

Just for me and my back pack, plenty of space inside. I thought it needed more color outside for visability of finding my way back home with a load of firewood or bucket of water in the twilight, but carring bright bandanas for a flag keeps the waspers away from my door. Tent doesnt have much of exterior anchor system in high wind but a little gold nylon rope from the grommets to an anchor worked fine (and I slept like a baby). Good floor, good ventilation BUT BUT BUT it smelled like plastic the first couple of days so let it air out, pack it with some of those silica gel packets, maybe a few squirts of febreeze . . . mighty fine little tent for the price. It packs well just keep your poles outside the pack as to not stress fiberglass.

Cooks good food, but not smokeless

9 September, 2011 (11:11) | Barbecue Grill | By: admin

Barbecue Grill. All considered, I decided to give this Sanyo indoor grill a 5-star rating. Its probably more like 4.5 stars, but Amazon doesnt allow that. Ill explain.

On the plus side, I really like the simplicity of this grill. Its also light-weight, registering a little under seven pounds, which means its easy to move around – no breaking your back! Its also quite easy to clean: just soapy warm water and dry! The grill consists of three pieces: a metal grill, a sheet metal oil drip pan, and a plastic base. The base does feel a little insubstantial, but the whole thing, put together, is quite sturdy. The 200 in^2 cooking surface is good for a family of up to four.

I also loved the price: I never imagined I could have a quality indoor grill for such a low price. (Thanks to Amazon, too?) This is probably what tilted me to the five-star rating. The grill, made in China, is of pretty good build quality, and looks like it’ll last a long time. The price and value just cant be beat.

Above all, the grill really gives you delicious BBQ food! Ive grilled steaks, pork chops, burgers, franks, chicken breasts, chicken legs, chicken wings, vegetables, and more, and *each and every time* the food came out absolutely delicious. For example, I bought 2 pounds of semi-boneless rib steaks at Shaws for ten bucks. I sprayed the grill with some oil spray, pre-heat the grill to 350 F degrees (which took about 20 minutes), and then grilled the steaks (together with a couple burger patties and some green peppers) for about 15 or 16 minutes to well-done. Then my family enjoyed a delicious steak meal. Not counting the cost of the grill itself, but including electricity (the grill is rated at 1300W), the whole meal came to less than $15 for four full-sized adults! Imagine if we had eaten out at a steakhouse; the last time I went to a steakhouse in Manhattan, I had to shell out over $80 per person, with no appetitizer ordered and only tap water! In fact, I found my own grilled steaks (served with Diet Coke bought on sale) even better. Even if the Sanyo had gone meet its makers after this one meal, Id have more than broken even on the meal, compared to any restaurant that serves steaks.

So I’m really thrilled about the value and the quality of the food.

Now, why not a full-hearted five stars? Well, because this is a low-cost product, there are a couple items that I dislike. One, the thermostat is a joke; it has temperature ranges like 200-250 and 300-425 but doesn’t give you exact markers, so you have to guess where to turn the knob to in order to preheat to 325. Not a big deal after a few tries, and I seem to get it right (more or less) each time even though Id never operated a grill, indoor or outdoor, before. Two, cooking time is not short, period. Preheating to 300 takes about 15 minutes and to 425 takes over 20 minutes. Cooking itself takes between 10 and 20 minutes depending on what you cook and the meats thickness. Also, the cooking time seems to vary with room temperature.

Three, more important, this grill is not completely smokeless. The oil spray will give out the most smoke, although it hasnt set off our smoke alarm yet. (I keep the doors and kitchen windows open when cooking.) In fact, I dont think any open grill can give you smokeless cooking. As long as you have oil heated to over 300 degrees, you will get smoke. Please keep this in mind if you live in a meticulously maintained house and cannot stand any grill smoke.

But all in all, I love this grill. Id gladly buy another one any time. While grilled meat may not be healthy, this grill cooks yummy BBQ meat and veggies and saves me tons of money. I recommend this grill.

Couples or childrens tent

9 September, 2011 (07:08) | Tents | By: admin

This tent is perfect for couples, a snuggle tent with adverage size couples. If your tall skip this tent. Im 56 and most comfortable fit for me and my gear is on the diagonal as to not worry about touching the sides when it rains. Love the design, large screen vents on top, opposite the window & door screens for great cross ventilation on a clear dry night. Door is a good size for entry/exit. Rain fly easy to set up and longer than others at this price. Also an attached small mesh storage bag attached to the back wall to the right of the window as well as an extra loft storage net you can attach or not. Tent went up quickly and came down just as fast. This is a very light weight designed tent, would recommend tent & pole repair kits. Mine arrived with some minor screen damage no big deal. Its kinda a pain in the butt to re pack, but with practice/use it gets easier. Tent stakes are small aluminum pin type, standard. would buy a stronger set for the weekend camper will last longer. The tub floor is a great feature, a small tarp under it and a heavy blanket inside on floor works great to reduce moist/damp feel adds a little comfort as well. Tent is awkward as a backpacking tent at 23L x 6 H x 6W, you can repack to a smaller width and put into a compression sack, if you remove & combine poles & stakes in pole bag and keep separate. This tent is perfect for kids, 3 adverage size at max. Would have like to see zipper pulls on inside of tent but at this price you can afford 1 pack at local store. Also a key finder works great to find your tent in the woods after a hike or in the dark. Overall a smart purchase!

update: was able to accommodate the twin size Coleman 4 in 1 air mattress under the rear window. Stretched out, toes touch the sides, but comfortable. There was plenty of gear storage room on door side of tent. actually a lot of room for 1 person. This is actually a quality tent, just need to figure out how to make it work for yourself. compared to other backpack tents this is a little heavier, but much stronger for the price. Still Happy with this purchase!

try this

9 September, 2011 (04:14) | Barbecue Grill | By: admin

I read the review about how long it takes to preheat this Barbecue Grill, well being a full time chef (aa culinary arts) and over 20 years in the industry, I have used many different types of grills, and in most cases when I needed it to heat up quickly we would just place a sheet pan over it and it decreased the startup time significantly. Well I found a aluminum baking pan which fit this grill perfectly, the metal does not come in contact with the plastic base, and it took only 4 minutes to reach the high setting. I used a litte non stick spray and placed 2, 1 inch thick lamb chops on it and it seared them perfectly and quickly, placed the cover (pan) back over them, waited about 3 minutes, turned them over, and grilled another 2 minutes and they were well done. Totoal time grill was on 10 minutes. Now lamb is about the greasiest meat and I did get a little smoke, but that was only when the searing was taking place, and with the cover very little splatter also. I think if they could the would make a cover for this unit, but it would probably not pass U.L. standards? Not sure but if you are using this grill as with other appliances you must keep a close eye on them. I got this item next day with amazon prime total was only 34 bucks. Great deal and product.

Dinnerware Sets.Fell in love with the look of these dishes. However, the manufacturer claims these dishes are microwave safe. Not so. I have now broken two of these dishes in the microwave, and I was microwaving for only one minute each time. Will not ever buy another set of Gibson dishes. Very dissatisfied with this product.

OK, but obsolete and heavy

8 September, 2011 (10:48) | Tents | By: admin

The product works so far, but its pretty much obsolete now. Meaning, everything now is LED powered, which are incredibly light and compact. This guy is bulky, very heavy (with the batteries and magnet), and the light is pretty dim. I have an LED flashlight which is powered by watch batteries that is far brighter than this light, and it is the size of a large pen. This light takes 4 AA batteries and still gives off a pretty dim light. And did I mention its bulky and heavy?

Hey, the light works, the magnet is strong, and it does the job, but Ill bet (if it already doesn’t exist) someone will come out with an LED tent light that is far brighter and much less bulky. Id recommend this light only for car camping and just for basic lighting needs, not for reading.
